Flexible foam is a subjective product with objective failure modes. Hand feel, recovery time and temperature sensitivity are all set by where the glass transition sits relative to use temperature — and durability is set by whether the network can carry load without permanent deformation.
MCPU treats both as formulation targets. Tg placement is engineered, not discovered after a customer complains that the pillow is hard in a cold bedroom.
What this application has to hit
- Controlled Tg for consistent feel across the use-temperature range
- Compression set and fatigue durability over service life
- Resilience and recovery time matched to the product concept
- Renewable content for procurement and marketing claims
- Low emissions for indoor sleep and seating products
How MCPU formulates for it
Honey Bee® reactive soy polyols carry bio-content into the network with primary hydroxyl functionality, so resilience and compression set improve rather than degrade the way crude vegetable-oil blends often do.
Soft- and hard-segment balance is used to move the loss-modulus peak into the target window, giving repeatable viscoelastic behavior instead of a temperature-sensitive part.
Cell-opening and crosslink density are tuned together so airflow, feel and durability move as one specification.
Formulation levers we adjust
| Lever | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Tg placement | Soft/hard segment ratio positions the loss peak in the use window. |
| Bio-content | Honey Bee® substitution level set against tensile and set targets. |
| Crosslink density | Controls resilience, load bearing and compression set together. |
| Cell opening | Airflow tuned for recovery time and breathability. |
