Halogen-free flame-retardant additive system for rigid PIR & polyurethane foam.

What it is

Yellow Jacket™ is a family of reactive and non-reactive flame-retardant additives engineered as a direct replacement for TCPP and other chlorinated phosphate flame retardants in polyisocyanurate (PIR) boardstock, spray polyurethane foam (SPF), and rigid PU systems.

Key benefits

  • Developed as a TCPP replacement at comparable loadings (development starting point: 8–14 phpp).
  • Developed against ASTM E84 Class A, UL 723, and CAN/ULC-S102 targets, verified on your formulation.
  • Reduced smoke density vs chlorinated FRs.
  • Halogen-free chemistry — no chlorine, no bromine.
  • Stable in stored polyol blends; no phase separation at typical use levels.

How it works (chemistry overview)

Yellow Jacket™ combines a phosphorus-rich reactive backbone with engineered char-formers. During combustion, the phosphorus moiety drives condensed-phase char formation while the secondary additive package promotes intumescence — together suppressing flame spread without the HCl evolution typical of chlorinated FRs.

Applications

  • PIR boardstock for commercial roofing and wall insulation
  • Closed-cell spray polyurethane foam (ccSPF)
  • Rigid appliance and refrigeration foam
  • Sandwich panels for cold storage

Sustainability profile

Halogen-free; lower-toxicity smoke profile; compatible with bio-based polyol blends including Honey Bee® soy chemistry.
